Broken Spring
Broken Spring
I have a broken right rear suspension spring. Will that cause the ABS TRACTION CONTROL light to come on? I'm going to replace the springs and I was thinking about replacing the bump stops. I saw Tham on rockauto.com. Is it necessary to replace the bump stops. They are $42.00 for one.
A broken spring will NOT cause the ABS/Traction Control light to come on.
Based on how the ABS works, there is no way that it could cause it.
My daughter's HHR had a broken spring and she didn't have any warning lights.

A broken spring critically changes the suspension geometry - in this case, the ABS sensor wiring may be broken, this is the very first thing to check. Moreover, you need to check the sensors on both sides.
Then the working surface of the sensor must be checked for contamination. For example, a layer of bearing grease on the CV joint comb slightly less than 1 mm thick can prevent the sensor from working correctly. The ABS sensor works on the principle of a magnet, but a weak one, contamination distorts the magnetic field.
By the way: . Touch it with a steel wire or a spoke (to the place with which the sensor monitors the revolutions). If you do not feel weak magnetism, the sensor is dead.
