A/c

the air in the car will not turn off. I can turn it all the way on but when I turn the nob to turn it off it only goes down one turn and then when I keep turning it doesn't do anything. Has this every happened to anyone else? Do I have to take it to a mechanic or can I fix it myself?

Have you tried just turning it off at the A/C button?

Welcome to the site cricketLT2. You could just heat up the seats.

Warranty. The OP's car is listed as a 2011. Take it to the dealer.

Most common: on recirculate or defrost is on if you are talking A/C with no light on. You could just turn the fan to off.

@cricketLT2, under normal circumstances your concerns would be covered under the Bumper to Bumper warranty of the HHR. You’ll want to get the vehicle into your local Chevrolet dealership for diagnosis. At that time, they’ll provide you with warranty information.
