Camshaft sensor - My mechanic says the part is incorrect

I have a 2010 Chevy HHR Panel. Lately the engine stutters a lot especially when not breaking or accelerating. My mechanic says it is the Camshaft sensor. He ordered one, but says it is not the same as the one in my car. If you look at the attached screengrab, Imagine for a moment if the right side was facing down instead of to the right. That's what my mechanic says it should look like. Does anyone know anything about this. Secondly is there a way to use this one, maybe by using a heat gun to warp the right part to face down instead. Open to ideas, here....

Why is he saying you need a camshaft sensor? If it is because P0017 or P0016 he is wrong, you need a new timing chain.

The sensor is doing its job!! Only one way a camshaft can be out of position, a skipped timing chain tooth!!

I hope the mechanic meant he diagnosed the wrong part, not that they sent the wrong part number. He probably meant to get a timing chain set not the sensor.

He is probably mixing the knock sensor up with the cam sensor.

Mechanic probably read some crap on line that referred to sensors when they meant VVT solenoid valves. Calling the the VVT solenoid valves sensors is a pervasive misnomer anywhere that the clueless discuss Ecotecs. Betcha he googled one of the VVT P codes and chose from his hits poorly.

Get someone who knows what they’re doing. But first, demand to know exactly what codes he found. The numbers, not the descriptions.

Was the CEL on when he got it?

Does your mechanic have a shop? Sounds like he may not know what he's doing.
