Car stalled while driving

Hi all, we are a 2 HHR family. Last night daughter was driving on the freeway and the car just lost power. The DIC shows that she has fuel for 65 miles, but will not start. Cranks, but no start.
Fuel pump can be heard when the key is turned to ON, but there is no fuel under pressure in the fuel rail.
Removed the air filter and shot some B-12 Chemtool into the intake and it started, although only briefly. The car is a 2007 with ~50k on the clock.
Is this to be expected? I have read of others replacing the fuel pump but have not seen any talk of millage. This looks like a $300 repair just for the parts so I want to be sure.

Then you need to check the fuel pressure to be 100% sure. Everything you posted points to a fuel pump, but you could also have a bad fuel level sensor, and may be out of fuel. I only say this because you state that your hear the pump running. Have you tried adding any fuel?

Fuel pump is covered by power train warranty. 5 year 100K. But you may be over 5 years from the original delivery date.

Sounds as simple as out of fuel. The DIC showing 65 miles range left means your sucking the bottom of the tank dry. Running the tank that low is also not good on the fuel pump. The gas keeps the electric fuel pump submerged to keep it cool. Little or no gas, means no cooling of the pump.

Oh, the downside of trying to see how far you can go on a tank of fuel. Even though the DIC said we had 65 miles of fuel, we could not use it. Lesson learned.
