CEL - Mechanic said Gas Pedal

The other day, i had my CEL come on for a while. Shut down and restarted the car but the light remained on. Checked things over but everything seemed to be operating without error. Went to dinner and when I restarted the car, the light remained off.

the wife had the car today and the light came on, but the engine would not accelerate. Cleared itself so she took it to a mechanic. He didn't give her the code but said it was the gas pedal.

Does this sound right and if so, what do I need to replace? I have a throttle body but I assume there is a transmitter to send a signal from the pedal to the throttle body.

Without the code number,,,,hard to say.

Now if it's a P0120, P0121, P0122 or P0123, these are the codes that correspond to the throttle position sensor.

Also helps if you would post year, model, engine etc.

I will probably have to get the code checked when I get the car back. My wife said she started it this morning and it would not accelerate but no light. She got it home, let it warm up and everything worked fine, but took it into the mechanic to have it checked. I will try to call the mechanic to get the code.

2008 2.2 Two months ago replaced the engine with an 18K engine.

The transmitter you refer to is a Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor
The hhr throttle is controlled by fly by wire technology. No throttle Cables any more. It is a complete assembly with the gas pedal. I agree with firemangeorge we can help you better with the codes. There can be maultable things that can cause your problem.

I would guess that some connector has come loose/chafed etc. Especially on account of the engine swap.

as we say to our waiters, check please!! it's hard to guess but without that code, we are just shooting in the dark! You mentioned you have a throttle body is this from the original engine? maybe the replacement got wet while sitting at the yard and decided to take a powder? or loose connections as Dowbrew stated.
Please let us know the outcome!
