Are you sure that the other brake lights are not stuck on while driving?

The switch is the same, however I think the side lights go off when the key is off.

From your Owner Manual there is this:

Name: CHMSL.PNG

Size: 5.3 KB

It could be stuck.

Fuse #9 on the inside fuse box is for the stop lamps.

There is a link in my sig for online Owner Manuals.

There have been a few members with this problem. One replaced the Brake Pedal Position Sensor, solving the problem. I could not find any other solutions posted.

I also seem to remember something about LED bulbs causing problems.

I searched and found

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...removed-26501/

In there this was recommended for the brake switch

https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/prob...-lights-26379/

Read the post #12 and change out the switch

LED bulbs can cause a couple of problems with circuits that were not designed for them. They can light up from bleed through current, they can "latch" on, they can provide a new route to + via G probably more.

The LEDs cause problems with the cruise control also.
But in this case , as Don diagnosed in that other thread it's most likely the switch has failed

It looks like '06-'07 had 2 actual 'switches', even the automatics. Some are no longer available. For the stop lamp switch, P/N 12450036 Seems the other switch has to do with the trans.

Starting in '08 it went to a single 'sensor'. P/N 15192340 All trim levels, 1 sensor for brake, same part number for clutch sensor, if applicable.

The information below seems to pertain to the '06-'07 clutch pedal switches, although GM calls one of them a stop lamp switch

No longer available P/N 22620888 '06-'07 HHR Manual trans stop lamp switch, VEHICLES BUILT ON 10/29/06 AND PRIOR .

A little confusing here, the drawing shows it and another switch, both on the clutch pedal, nothing on the brake pedal. But a different drawing shows 2 switches on the brake and none on the clutch. The 2 drawings must go together. '06-'07 has 2 switches on brake pedal and 2 switches on clutch pedal. Can anyone confirm?

VEHICLES BUILT ON 10/30/06 AND AFTER P/N 25800562 this time they're not calling it a stop lamp switch. So I think P/N 22620888(above) is not actually for the stop lamps.

My search was for 'brake pedal' http://www.wholesalegmpartsonline.co...=brake%20pedal
