Charging battery

2008 HHR SS. When charging an HHR battery is there anything special that needs to be done? Anything that should be disconnected first or can I just connect my charger to the pos and neg posts and go from there?

Nope, nothing special needs to be done. I prefer to hook directly to the battery, but one can also hook up under the hood.

Thank you. I've never had to charge mine and didn't know if there were any "secrets" with the new electronic systems such as having to disconnect the negative cable or such.

I had to disconnect my battery and bring it in to charge it but mostly because it was so blame cold outside. The battery was frozen and needed to be thawed out first otherwise I would have left it in the car.

I used the underhood location and put it on a 6 amp charger for about 2 hrs and it started fine. I now have it on a trickle charger and will leave it overnight to, hopefully, get a more complete charge. I don't know how old the battery is but it appears to be an original-tpe AC Delco 90-6YR unit. I've had the car since Sept of 2013 so maybe it's time to shop for a battery. just to be safe.

At the 6 year mark, it really doesn't owe you a thing, so getting a new one might be a good idea, esp during these cold snaps.
