Unhappy 'Check Enigne Light' on Steady

Ok, today my Check engine Light came on... I went to Advance Auto to get the code read.

They couldn't link to my ride, stating possibly the Cig Lighter fuse was probably Blown.

I found it later, fuse # 29 (in under hood fusebox) & it was blown, replaced it started vehicle & took a spin & then re-checked it, Yep Blown again.

Runs good etc.

Any direction on this would be greatly appreciated..

Steady on is a lot better than flashing (what I had recently). You have a sensor or something gone. But the only way to know is to have it read. Steady on is safe to drive. But you may have a short that keeps popping the fuse.

Obvious first Q is: What after market electronics are installed? That is the starting point to figure out the blown fuse. I think that both "power outlets" are on the same fuse, and I doubt that anything else would be on that circuit from the factory. Could be a wire came loose and is shorting.

I don't know what the connection is between the cig lighter and the code reader.

solman- Thanks, & that is the problem, that fuse prevents the code reader to link into my system. So it can't be read.

donbrew- Thanks, Advance Auto said check the cig lighter fuse (aka Front Aux power outlet), cause when they hooked their code reader on, it only read "NO LINK".

Only aftermarket electronics was the install of my 3 Caddy horns, long ago.
Nothing else. (at ALL)..

Edit:
I just removed the blown fuse # 29, & with my test light, touched both terminals & test light light up.. Doing that should NOT complete a circuit, as it is doing.

I agree, gotta be a short to ground.

Ahhh that is nasty on the short. It might be the power receptacle itself - try disconnecting it from behind the dash and retest.

Not sure, but it would not surprise me if the outlet at the back of the console in the rear seat area was daisy-chained to the one in front.

OK, just removed the cig lighter element, & re-tested w/test light to terminals in fuse location # 29,

& test light does NOT light up, (Yea!!!).. Maybe I'm on to something..

(Hope I didn't just jinx myself)...........

Question: When you unplug the cig. lighter, does it kill the outlet in the back of the console?

I never wear shorts in the winter.

Sorry. I have nothing useful to add.
