Clicking noise

I have had my HHR for a little over a year now. The last 8 months I have heard a light clicking noise ONLY when I turn sharply to the right at low speeds. I can turn sharply to the left and there will be no noise at all. There is no vibration at higher speeds either. So I am kinda back and forth on the idea that it may or may not be the LH CV shaft. Upon initial inspection [looking through the wheel well] I cannot see any tears in the boot, and I have also tried to move the shaft by hand but there is no play. Anyone else have experience with this problem?

2007 2.4L is listed in his profile. Could be hub caps (if equipped), bearing, cv joint etc....

Not enough information to determine with my online stethoscope.

Yeah, saw that. I was more curious about the mileage.

That noise on an Acura I owned years ago, was the beginning of the demise of a CV joint.

I vote CV joint

The clicking when turning in one direction was classic CV joint failure on a couple of my other vehicles (and on the car talk radio show), but I haven't had one go on my HHR yet.

Ya I am still suspicious of that half shaft. But it just doesn't act up like most other CV failures I have seen. You think maybe the end links can cause this issue?

My HHR is an '07 2.4L Fall Edition if you needed to know. No hub caps, 17" Fall Editions..

So I bought a 2011 a couple weeks ago and came across a click when I go from reverse to drive or drive to reverse. Took it to the dealership where the mechanic told me it is a normal noise that comes from the transmission and that all HHR's do it no matter the year or mileage on it. Anyone else know this ?

That is a different "click", and my experience with a 2008 and a 2011 agrees with the mechanic.

Yea, It is a single metallic click but it just really worried me at first as I have never heard a car do that before but if others here know what it is and it happens to them as well then I guess I am ok with it. I was tempted though to have him pull one of the ones they had on their used lot just to prove to me that they all do it but I took his word for it.
