Camshaft Position(CMP) Actuater Solenoid Valve I beleive is the technical name for them.I have a brief rattle at start up and cant figure out whats causeing it.Its like a dry start noise like when you change the oil.I have tried the timeing chain tensioner part, one you can change externally, some searching i did mentioned this could be the culprit.I changed the serpintine belt, even started car while belt removed to rule out the belt tensioner. Now im checking on the CMP actuaters to see if they are faulty.how do you check to see if the cam phasers are "parking" correctly?Only other thing i can think of that would cause this noise is because all the oil drains from filter houseing during shut down.Anyone have some ideas??

Here is a link re the replacement of the solenoids - see the part numbers at the end of the thread. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-tutorial-library-21/camshaft-position-actuator-solenoid-valve-replacement-w-pics-p0010-11-p0013-14-a-28779/

tip for you: if you add punctuation and create proper sentences with spaces between them, your posting would be MUCH easier to read.

Do you think these would cause this startup clatter if they aren't working properly?

Mine went bad on my 09 2.2 and there was no noise or clatter issue. It was just a running rough issue.

From info I got by checking out some other forums, this is a pretty common issue for alot of GM vehicals that have ecotecs with VVT.GM has apparently done alot of buy backs/lemon law ordeals because of this.It seems as though now they have also issued some updated actuaters and some firmware updates that have resolved this clatter for many people.I am going to try these new updated parts and see if it helps my situation.

Are you saying that 2.2 ecotec engines have vvt? The OP is asking about the 2.2 engine, not the 2.4.

2.2 got vvt in '09, along with flex fuel.
Startup clatter is more likely piston slap, my '08 non vvt does it, common and not really fixable.
