There are several products out there like that, another is WaterWetter, they are surfactants.
Antifreezes all have a bit in them too, but not very much.

There is a lot of fluid that doesn’t drain out unless you remove the thermostat.

Which may explain why you noticed an improvement, but also why it is not completely fixed. You may have just mixed some new fluid with the old.

You have to remove the drain bolt from the bottom of the water pump to get all the coolant out of the block.
Doable from the top, but easiest to remove the filter box and the box rear mounts to reach under there.
