Dealer Mistake - Synthetic to Regular

23k miles on the SS and went in to the dealer this morning for a service. They had done the other services and did a good job at a fair price.
One of the key fobs needed to be replaced and there was some sort of recall related to the turbo that I needed to return for later this afternoon when the parts arrived. Went back in, they did the recall work and then I paid for the entire service. I didn't pay much attention to the cost but for some reason I did ask the young lady service writer who was going over the work done with me, if synthetic had been used. She responded "yes".

Later at home, I looked over the receipt and saw the oil charge was $3.14 a quart. I immediately called the young lady back and she said, oh yeah, after I left she asked the tech if he used synthetic and he said "no" but the car did not require synthetic so it would be fine. She said she had double checked and he was correct so the tech said he just put back in what was marked on the oil filler cap - 5W-30.

I told the young lady that the car came with synthetic and the previous services had been with synthetic. She wasn't impressed. I told her I would call her right back. Opened the hood and yes the oil filler cap does say 5W-30 but it clearly says Mobil 1 also. Returned and supposedly they drained the regular and replaced with synthetic.

Any mechanical harm done or anything else I should be doing besides looking for a new dealer?

The same thing happen to me. Caught it as i was paying, The service guy yelled out , It dosn't require synthetic, LOL , Well i watched them drain it, And install another fillter and they only charged me $20.00 . The SS is one of the easiest and quickest cars to do an oil change on, so i do mine own now.

I'm not an expert, but I would assume that little amount of driving probably didn't hurt anything.

I doubt it hurt anything.... not enough miles, you weren't racing or beating on it..... Should be fine.

Time to find another dealer though and make sure the existing one knows why you will never be back. I might even tell GM about this one if it were me, and make sure the "mistake" gets documented in case of warranty issues later.

I have been told that it no longer matters if you switch back n forth.

Further, I would have as said by Bat, watched them drain it.

No harm is done here. Changing back corrected the issue.

The only thing that could happen is under long term use the standard oil could carbon up in the oil line to the turbo bearing or just break down faster to higher temps. This would take place over thousands of mile and not just a few.

Syn oil just deals with the higher temps over the long run and that is why they use it.
