The initial jump in idle should mean that the compressor is pumping, but check to make sure the shaft is turning , not just the pulley.

If so, then the next step would be to put on a set of guages and check the pressures.

 

Doubtful. If it was working before, then quit right after the oil change, then it's probably something the oil change place did.
Did you go back to them and ask them to take a look ? I would.

 

I asked them to take a look and they scheduled an AC check for Friday. I asked if there was a cost involved and he said, $120 for diagnostic, drain and refill. I paused. He said, we could look around for any loose wires or disconnected parts, but we don't touch the AC as part of our oil change. About what I thought they would say. A friend of mine has added refrigerant to his Blazer and says it's not a big deal. He's pretty good at most repairs. Maybe I'll ask him to take a look.

 

Like I stated, if it was working before then quit after the oil change, it's most likely NOT a low freon issue. I am familiar with auto AC's. Used to do a lot of AC work back in my mechanic for a living days.
If that shop won't take a look at it for free then you should steer clear of that bunch in the future.

So, I guess I could take it in and only authorize them to check it over for anything that may have been disconnected.
