Just a question for you knowledgeable people...cleaning the car the other day, slightly overcast, about 60 degrees, and my defroster kept turning on while my keys were in my pocket. Any ideas?

Did you just shut off the ignition and didn’t open the door yet?
Did the fan start after you were out of the car ?

I never had the key in the ignition. I unlocked the door, sat and started cleaning and within about 45 minutes the defroster had kicked on four times. It did Saturday when I was changing the oil and plugs too.

Let's clarify you saying the "defrost kept turning on".
Are you saying the blower fan would come on and blow air out the top dash vents at the windshield ? Any chance you were hitting the remote start on the fob somehow ? (may not have started but could have powered up the electricals)

Inadvertent key fob, pocket dialing would seem to be the best possible answer.

Ah, pocket A/C ! Cool! Except you have to press the lock button twice, then the remote start, I just tested that theory.

Yes, the blower fan comes on and blows air out of the defrost vent on the dash. It runs for about 30 seconds and turns off. There is no way possible that I hit the remote start button. When I was doing work under the hood Saturday, it turned on and the keys were sitting in the cup holder. I don’t get it. I had an ‘07, that I spent lots of time working in or around it, and it never did this. I’m assuming no one has had this problem, so I’ll tinker around with stuff and figure it out.

Let us know what you find, may I suggest a battery lobotomy, disconnect the negative terminal at the battery, while your waiting the full 30 minutes, check the fuses and relays are pressed in tight, check the fuse box halves are tight under the hood.
after 30 minutes, reconnect the battery and see if a computer reset does the trick.

Never heard of it before... HHR or otherwise.

What happens if the keys are in the house while you are out around the car? Would narrow it down to key proximity or it's just doing it all the time. (which would pretty much kill the battery pretty quickly)
