No, the ignition switch hanging up can happen to the 5 speeds as well.

I took the car into the dealer this AM and just got a call that it will cost $388 to install a new cylinde and program a new key. I am so pissed I could chew nails! I called back later to talk to the service manager and of course got his voice mail. I am looking forsomeone highter up the chain anyway.

I just found the Chevrolet customer service number (800-222-1020). I called them and am currently on hold.

Sorry. I was referring to you folks with automatics having to tear apart your shifters.

$378 later, I am back to the key working like it did last week. NICE! I have a reference number that the agent in C.S. gave me. She said that they would "look into it and give me a call back". I won't hold my breath.

I had the problem were the key gets stuck were it will not release unless you use the small button under the steering wheel, well for a cheap fix is i use a rubber band around the part that has the release button and the key comes out every time ,just throwing out there ...

Those people that answer the phones are pretty much the same as the 'social media', 'reputation management' people that are on many of the GM sites as 'ChevroletCustomerService', 'BuickCustomerService', 'CadillacCustomerService', etc (the 'Michellevan' types). If you do get an call back, it will be something 'public relations' oriented. They'll probably offer you a $25 gift certificate for your next service if you mark everything 'execellent' on the little survey they send you about your recent service experience. I told them 'no thanks'......what a joke.

Doesn't that also allow you to shift out of park w/o stepping on the brake? Probably better to fix it properly......

anyone know if the micro-switch on the shifter energizes a solenoid?
I pulled my micro-switch last weekend due to a failed shift inter-lock. I pulled the micro-switch and zip-tied it CLOSED...but I worry if there's a solenoid that is energized by that micro-switch.
hate to hurt something else just by BY-PASSING SOME GM retardation.
