Draggin'

On my new to me '11 I drag a little going in and out of my driveway, and today I noticed the black "air dam" under the bumper hanging loose. Is this something I need or can I remove it intirely and possibly get rid of the draggin'?

Will be towing the beast behind my motorhome through some of our deteriorated roads so don't want to drag on them either.

Thanks for your opinions and no I won't fix the driveway.

The air dam directs air to the radiator in the middle, by stopping it, and forcing it up or below the lower opening. And it deflects it around the tires on the outside. Can you live without it? Yes. Should you replace it or secure your current one better? Yes. Either way, you are better off with it in place, but the choice is yours. You might see slightly higher temps and slightly lower MPGs without it. It also looks better on the car, as it makes the front appear to be as low as the rockers.

You too must have a great mind as I came to the same conclusion. After I slid my fat, old keister under this sweetheart and took a look.

Between this website and some of the RV ones I go to I almost have my PHD completed.

I have knocked sections of my air dam loose many times, usually it gets caught on parking stops that are a little too tall, and then when I back out it pulls out of the snaps and plastic retainers. Eventually enough of the plastic loops on the air dam that the retainers go through break so it won't fasten back into place. Then I used black wire ties to hold it in place.

According to gmpartsdirect, the list price from GM is $86 (!!!)

However, Rock Auto has it for about $23 if I remember correctly.

The reason I haven't bought another one is that the same thing will happen to the new one.
