You should consider a scan tool but if you are going with a code reader be sure it does more than the PCM.

Have you even seen the previous 10 posts?
Scan tools don't go "out of date". The old programming is still good. The OBD2 codes for the HHR have not changed. For that matter, generic OBD2 codes have not changed since 1996. Some scantool makers try to extort money from unsuspecting consumers..

All the bolts inside the fuse box under the hood we're loosened by about a full round. I tightened them up snug, and seems to have taken care of the problems I was having.
