Encounters of the strainge kind

After stopping for lunch yesterday, got back into the car and headed for OKC.
Notice I failed to hear any audible clicking during the use of the directional signal . After a few minutes decided to turn on the radio and found we had no audio. Had station, channel of XM radio and song title. No audio. Thought I had muted the radio, no radio muted info on the face of radio. Tried to call on star, got all of the normal signals, still no audio. Tried calling the car with our cell phone. Had all of the signals that a call was trying to come thru. No audio. Decided we would take the car to a chevy dealer in OKC when we arrived there. About a hour later we stoped for a soft drink and to get the wife a cup of Ice. Started car. All is normal now. Not able to duplicate the problem again. Suspect the Ing. Switch. Possibly something in the tumbler assy or contact.
Anyone else have something like this?

Same symptoms as I had. It was a bad ground in the antenna. Yours may not be the antenna but check it to see if the base is loose.

You meen the radio antenna? If yes, how would that effect the directional signal clicker audio ?

Everything goes through the radio. GM used the antenna base for an audio ground. Don't know why, just that they did.

I'd open the door no chimes, no turn signal click, HU would show it was recieving signal radio and xm, cd's would show track info, but NO sound.

The ground in the antenna base was shorted out when I switched to a new base. Dealer refused to beleave me, but when I fixed the antenna, the problem was gone.

also that's why until a new aftermarket radio harness came out, everyone who replaced the radio lost all of the chimes.

Moose ...
Similar situation here ... happened to me ONCE (searchable)... but unable to reproduce/has never occured again.
I, too, thought I muted- so I pressed the mute several times. I turned the volume up and down, turned stattions, tried the CD player (no XM, no On-Star), turned the HU on and off (several times)... even shut the car off & turned back on... NOTHING~!
My wife and I ended up driving home (12miles without tunes) at which point I pulled the INTERIOR fuse cover and resat all the fuses. Restarted the car- NO PROBLEMS!!!!
It wasn't obvious to me that any of them where partially seated- just pressed on every one of them and !VIOLA!
It's worth a try... and hasn't happened since...

SCOOT: Thanks for the input. Car is at the dealers as we speak, for a rattle around the rear door area. He has all of the plastic from the rear compartment out and is applying a layer of foam tape to everything. Even has the rear door panel off. When I told him about the no audio problem, he said he would hook up and see if the computer left a code. I'll let you know what happens when we return. I took it over there without the top shelf cover, carpet, lower access panel and spare tire out. Only Battery and jack in the compartment. Both seem tight. We shall see

Got "HHRUMPH" back from the dealer. No plastic "squeak" now. Do have the sound of metal movement. Will wrap electrical tape around the latch receaver to see if that helps. No code left on the computer as far as the "no audio". If It never happens again, then no problem.

Still have some movement of the metal latch and door. Wraped some electrical tape around the aft door latch. (Had slight metal to metal noise). If you try this, be sure to wrap the aft vertical side of the u, I wraped the top and aft. (A little overkill). NO movement now. When the rear door closes it is a nice solid sound. Not the tinney sound it made before the tape. I think GM could improve on it by putting a hard rubber surface around the 1/4" stricker.
Might tell GM about this one.
