Engine Temp Sensor

Hello,

I have a 2008 Chevy HHR LS with a 2.0 engine in it.

I recently just had the water pump and T-stat replaced but my car still seems to be getting hot (205-215) when idling/ heavy stop and go traffic.

Yesterday afternoon I turned my car on and let it sit and get hot to see if the fan turned on after it reached over 200 F. It reached 212 F and did not turn on BUT when I turned on the A/C the fan turned on.

I turned the car off and checked the Radiator fan for any noise or resistance from the electric motor and it seems to be fine.

I am thinking that the Coolant Temp Sensor had crapped out on me.

Any thoughts?

Normal temp range. 225 and above is worry zone.

The fan does not come on until about 219F and goes off when the temp gets back to about 180F OR when the AC is on.

The 2.0L has a variable speed fan.

I guess I'll ask, because your post is a little confusing....
What engine do you REALLY have? The LS has the 2.2 ltr. the SS has the 2.0 ltr?

Welcome to the site, if you have the 2:2 , you might have the wrong thermostat installed and the wrong coolant.
Our trucklets are very specific for the Dexcool and the AC Delco thermostat

Whoever sold you the the t-stat may have given you a 190F one. Lately that has happened.

180F is proper.

Maybe, but 190F is more "normal". At least for mine.
