exhaust gets noisy when passing

I hear a sound from under the body near the middle of the engine, that sounds similair to the sound of an exhaust leak when you burn a header gasket on a old chevy. You cannot hear it at idle or in the cruzing speeds, but when you go to pass or excelerate you can hear it. and its not the sound of the exhaust from the tailpipe. It's hard to explain

Not sure if you are looking for answers or advice, or if you are just commenting on the situation.

From what you are stating, it does sound like an exhaust leak. Hit a muffler shop and have them check it out. If you are trying to figure out where the noise is coming from, have someone hold a rag over the tip of the exhaust pipe, while you search for the noise under the car.

Could be the start of the flex pipe starting to fail...

My thoughts exactly, sounds like the start of a flex pipe failure.

X 3 - flex pipe can be repaired by welding on a new flex pipe section, or replace the flex pipe and cat converter section. Best price would be from a muffler shop.

ok, what is a flex pipe and cat converter section???? I don't have a clue what you are talking about. I will contact the dealer for warranty issue.

OK..since your eng sits crosswise in eng compartment and moves (rotates) fwd and aft, a reg exhaust system would break in half right behind the eng..so to cure this there is a short section of flexible exhaust tubing that allows the eng to move and not disturb the rest of the exhaust system.

This section looks like its encased with woven steel strands, and actually it is, this adds strength to handle all the movement. Even so, the flexible part over time still wears and corrodes and eventually fails. Common occurance. Any muffler shop can fix this is short time for 150 or less. I don think warrenty will cover that as its not exactly drivetrain....but then I dont know exactly what kind of coverage you may have purchased...

Thanks

Thanks for the education on flex pipes. I am taking my car in to the dealer for another issue and see if they can fix the flex pipe under warranty. I have a warranty thru GMPP . I have a banging noise when I hit bumps or holes, sounds like something loose. Maybe a tie rod end or bushing issue. Thanks again
