Extended Warranty?
I don`t do high milage, I do have the extended warr.though..
Why doesn`t the term (extended) mean "after the factory" ?The factory warr. is 3yr/36000mi. (on the`06 ), after that the extended warr. should start up.
The way it is now, three yrs. are combined and lost on the far end...
What do you think...?

I do because my HHR is also my wife's daily driver, I bought it 3/28/06 and it now has 30,000 miles on the "clock"...The only issues with mine so far, fuel pump losing pressure and the chipping paint...so it has been relatively trouble free...did I mention that I love my HHR???

I agree with you B/B. I assumed (I should know better, assuming ALWAYS gets me in trouble) that what they were calling an EXTENDED warranty was just that, an extension/addition onto the standard 3yr/36,000mile GM warranty.
I bought my car at the end of July and when I got my “service contract” in the mail i just filed it - big mistake. After getting 2 offers from GM in the mail for an extended warranty, I finally got it out yesterday and read it. It isn’t with GM at all, but was subcontracted to another company. and i also found something I signed (Vehicle Service Contract Application) and hidden in one of two boxes titled Check (√) Vehicle Specifications was another little box, Titled “Manufacturer’s Warranty” and there was Months, with N/A typed in and Miles with N/A typed in. That tells me, now, that even the 3/36 warranty isn’t with GM.
I’ve been googling for stuff on the company that has my warranty. It has an office in a Missouri suburb of Kansas City but the MO BBB, according their website, has deemed that it has an “Unsatisfactory Record” due to one or more “Unsolved” compliants. The company also has offices in Lincoln, NB - Saint Louis, Mo - Earth City, MO - Maryland Heights, MO - and Bridgeton, MO.... BUT it is “domiciled” in the Cayman Islands.
I’m really embarrased and angry about this. I’ve never bought an extended warranty with any other car, but since this is a first year car I thought better safe than sorry.
Now i’m not even sure what would happen if i had an issue during what was supposed to be the “Standard” 3/36 warranty.
I’m not going to list the name(s) of the company just yet, I have some more research to do first. I will say that they go under about 4-5 different names. According to their website, the MO BBB has processed 80 claims with this company in the last 36 months. Two of which were closed in the last 12 months.
Let this be a warning to anyone considering a dealership’s offer for an extended warranty. Pay close attention, slow down and read everything before signing and go in with lots of questions. Basic stuff, which i did on all other aspects of the purchase, but i may have really screwed up with the warranty. Like i may have alreday said, I never get extended warranties and had no idea that they sub-contracted them out at the time I bought my HHR.
Next week I’m going to be calling the BBB, mostly to put in perspective the number of complaints as per the companys size and the volume of transactions.
I want to be clear, at this point i have had no issues with the company
In my opinion an extended warranty is especially good insurance for those of us considered high mileage drivers.
We purchased the GM Major Guard warranty right along with our HHR in late May, 2006.
We will roll up 27,000 miles today, approximately 7 months of driving.
My weekly commute back and forth to work is approximately 920 miles.
Our HHR has actually been quite trouble free thus far. We have had a fuel injector changed out and a rattle fixed; each issue was taken care of on the first visit to the dealership.
Our HHR is proving to really be a reliable vehicle, who knows whether the extended warranty will prove to be worth the money or not, one never knows.
Like I say, consider the extended warranty insurance protection.
Best Regards,
HHRANDY

My point was to help people not do something stupid like I did, and assume you're getting the GM warranty, but to read carefully the things you sign to guard against getting a subcontracted warranty. My salesman said that any ASE certified mechanic could do the work. It doesn't have to be a GM dealership.
Next week I'm going to pay a personal visit to the office of my warranty company and see if they agree with that, among other things.
My intention was to help people who are going to get the warranty to be smarter than I was about it. I'm not saying whether people should or should not get the warranty. My reason was because it is a first year car, and yours is because of high mileage. I agree with both.
Who knows, if/when I need the warranty coverage, it may well be as I understood it. If so, all is well. Only time will tell. I'm just going to find out some of the basic stuff now if I can, which i should have done at the time of purchase, rather than wait until my car breaks down.
Thanks for your input HHRANDY.
Good luck on your hunt. Please don't hurt anybody when you go visit there offices. :)
