The AC Delco 131-158 doesn't have that inner O-ring to block the valve open.

Pulling the doors and hatch would work.
Although you would be ruining a fine automobile.

Glad you got the thermostat changed , burp the coolant a few days .
you have 5 years to plan what to do with your HHR . Leave the doors and hatch, maybe a full roof canvas retractable top?
