First Check Engine Light and I'm Stumped.

So this is the first time I've got a CEL since owning the vehicle. I got the codes pulled and although I don't remember the exact numbers, I recall it was "Throttle position error" and something to do with a misfire. The guy said it could be a number of things. So the first thing I did was change the spark plugs, with no luck.
Basically what's happening is the car will turn on and hover around 1200rpm. After a couple seconds, it'll drop to around 800rpm and start shaking/lurching. When I accelerate, it'll stumble, but eventually get up to speed and it'll drive fine with no trouble. But if I accelerate and barely push the gas, it'll stumble again.
I know I'm supposed to search previous posts, and I have, but I can't seem to find the same exact issue.
I'm also very very very tight on cash right now, so I can't afford the $70 diagnostic from the mechanic.
Any help is very much appreciated.

Welcome to the site.

Most auto parts stores will read your codes for free. If you're looking to get help on this site, you'll need to post up the actual CEL code numbers.
example: P0001,P0002
Code descriptions can be vague and sometimes even point you to the wrong parts.

Get the codes, post them here and I'll bet the members here can help you.

Welcome to the site

The code numbers are important to help find the proper diagnostics procedures to help fix your problem.

Welcome to the site! Guessing at codes can be much more costly, but do simply check your MAF sensor plug is securely plugged in

http://engine-codes.com/p1516_chevrolet.html

The p0300 is a random misfire most likely caused by the throttle malfunction.

Search clean throttle body, follow all directions, such as disconnect negative battery terminal, Do Not move the throttle plate manually!
