Possibly strut/shock, or maybe a spring not seated correctly. Whats the sound, sound like?

Possibly also the front sway bar links.. seems a common problem with the HHR.

Here is the part number.. though you should verify.

MOOG Greasable sway bar links part no. K750012

Still got it

I had a clunk. Changed the tie rod ends, and replaced both struts. I had one that had a broken seal, so I did both. I have some slack on the sway bar grommets that bolt to the frame but, the shop told me you have to have a little slack, others tell their should be no slack. Who's right. with all the work still have a little clunk. Good luck if you fix it post it plz...........

Any of the above mentioned items could be the problem. I replaced everything mentioned but my clunk did not go completely away until I replaced the sway bar bushings.
Good luck.

A arm bushings(lower control arm) are another part that is known to wear out and cause a front end noise.

A set of these - http://www.energysuspensionparts.com...sp?prod=9.5161

and a set of Moog K750012 (or whatever length your end links are) go a LONG way to get rid of the clunking. Had the same problem with my 2008 HHR, those two fixes made a HUGE improvement.

My 2007 has a lot of the 'normal' so to speak front end clunks. Interestingly we have had quite a bit of rain, so its been really wet, and the front end clunks seem to have dissapeared. Now I would expect them to return after everthing really drys out, but that would seen to indicate maybe a rubber lube issue or??????
