Not the steering wheel. The tire itself. When I stand on the right side of the car and roll the tire back and forth you can hear a clunk sound. No sound when I roll the left front tire.

Not the steering wheel. I meant moving the tire/wheel itself. When I put my hands around the right tire and rock it back and forth, you hear a clunk No sound on the left side

Oh, ok. Sounds like the control arm rear bushing.

So not the sway bar....We checked the LCA bushings and they looked good Changed about 2 years ago. Generally when they are bad, you can see it. If you stand outside by the front wheel, you watch when the car moves forward then stops, and backward and stops You can see the front wheel moving forward and back. It happened for previous bad LCA. But now you dont see the wheel move. But I am willing to change the LCA just to be sure. The noise is driving me crazy.

But it could be the sway bar bushings also. They are probably easier to replace.

Two year old rear bushings can be the problem, the ones from Oldblue were about that old, looked ok, but when I removed the LCA’s, the rubber had separated from the centre sleeve.

If you can recreate the clunk by doing that, it should be very easy to find the problem.
One person doing the rolling of the tire, other person under there feeling for the location of the noise. If need be, put it on a drive-on lift to do the diagnosis.

Finally solved the problem. Changed the lower control arm, even though it did not appear bad. Noise finally gone!!!!!

Steel control arm? HHR uses forged aluminum.

That was a replacement I believe it was Moog. New one is aluminum I have replaced both sides about 3 times each. NYC roads have horrible potholes that destroy tires and suspensions
