Fuel Pressure Test Procedure

Hi
we have a 2008 2.2 that my wife named Henry.

Henry has a problem starting up. He takes a long time to start, or it takes two tries. I have looked at other posts about this and have done the inexpensive stuff. I think that this is likely a fuel pump issue.

I want to run a Fuel Pressure test to confirm this before I spend approx $300 on a fuel pump and drop the gas tank to install it.

I can get pressure gauges from the parts store on a very inexpensive rental. However the procedure in Alldata says that to run this test you need to turn on the fuel pump relay when the engine is not running usually multiple times. You then time the pressure drop and compare against the specs. My code scanner will not turn on the fuel pump, neither will the one I can rent at the parts store.

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do this on the cheap ie a scanner/analyzer/software package that does not cost a more than a shop would charge to run the test for me? Or, a procedure to start the fuel pump without frying the electronics?

My honest job just ended, so I need to do this as inexpensively as possible.

I appreciate any advice you can give.

The car was purchased used from a local Chev dealer. The car is out of warranty, as a fuel pump is not power train. I called the dealer and checked.

Install fuel press gage turn key to run not start, wait 3-5sec turn off wait 5-7sec turn to run ect. Each time you cycle the key it will turn the fuel pump on for 2 sec. So you can prime the gage. you can start the car with gage installed also.

Fuel pump IS powertrain on a 2008. Send me a message with the last 8 of your VIN and I will check the delivery date. You may still be in warranty.
