Fuel pump

Well, I must start by saying I've had my '08 SS since new in '08 and it's never let me down. Until this week, that is. Went into limp mode Tuesday night, (reduced power) and I dropped it off Wednesday at the dealer. They called today (Friday) suggested I best be sitting while they tell me that the fuel pump is bad and it will run (with diagnostics and tax) near a grand to repair. Only 60K on the clock for this car, but I guess my luck had to run out at some point. After returning the Toyota minivan to Enterprise, I at least get to look forward to one positive. I'll have to borrow the old man's '01 Corvette for a week and it will really bum me out to have to put the top down and row it through the gears in some nice fall weather.

Take care y'all!

Fuel pumps are not inexpensive to replace on any of the newer in tank pumps, but $1000.00 seems a bit on the high side. I had to have one replaced in a Ford Expedition I have, it wound up costing around $700.00 at the local dealer. I can't imagine replacing it in the HHR would be any more difficult or that the pump would cost significantly more. Might not be a bad idea to talk to the service manager at your dealer and ask what they might be in a position to do to help you out with the cost of the fuel pump replacement. May not do any good, but it certainly can't hurt to try.

Jeda13. Since the SS has 2 fuel pumps, which one of your's is bad ? The electrical one in the tank or the HP mechanical unit on the engine.

He didn't say. Only something about a line as well. Said the pump itself was @$500 alone. Hey, the CEO's at GM gotta make 20 million somehow.

Must be the HP mechanical pump. I think the in-tank electrical pump is in the $200-300.
I would ask your dealer which one it is.
