Guys what is this part

Guys what is this part

sorry no pic but here goes . as you face the engine on the lower right side lives a canister that holds oil of some sort.. it is a top loader and the top is plastic with 1 1/4 nut on the top ( part of the plastic top) this is an 08. thanks in advance

Sonds like the oil filter housing. Can't say for sure without a pic. Black plastic, right?

Happened to have this picture in my gallery. It shows the socket set up that I use. Is this what we're talking about? If so, that's the oil filter cap.

Under that 32mm black cap is the oil filter, it will come out with the cap.

Like this (see pic), & you just gently pull the filter straight off, & add a new filter, it just snaps into the cap.

I always wipe the O-rings with oil to prevent chaffing during install..

& wind back in BY HAND, then when fully seated give it a snug down (18 ft lbs) with socket/extension & rachet.

You can get the 32mm "shorty socket" at the auto parts or online.
The 1-1/4" I think may have clearance on the 2.2, but not the 2.4 engines.

They are identical between the 2.2 and 2.4. What fits one, will fit the other.

solman- a standard 1-1/4" socket does NOT fit the 2.4, that I know. Gotta be a 'shorty'..

& some 2.2 guys have swapped intake for the bigger 2.4 intake manifold.

Fwiw. Ain't much room on my 2.0 either, but my socket was an old one in my toolbox. Didn't have to buy a special one.

Are you saying a 1 1/4 doesn't fit the cap, or is too long? Cause both take the same cap. If the socket is too long, it won't fit period. Mine fits a 2.4 cause I've done it, but I use a 32mm, since it's supposed to be a metric and not an SAE (even though a 1 1/4 fits). It fit no tighter than the fitment on my 2.2.
