38K is actually fairly normal for rotors (especially slab rotors). The recommended replacement period is 30K.

I'm surprised that dealerships are even machining these rotors. Most slabs made post-1998 are throwaways - at new they're at minimum machining spec.

Rotors

Bought car with 17k, dealer had turned rotors. Now have 20k and it is shaking pretty bad. I ordered EBC rotors and pads. Rotors are on back order, hope I can hold out without having to waste time getting stock rotors turned again. Worried about having to stop suddenly on the highway.

Wow! 52% of those surveyed (nearly 200 people), have had rotor issues! I wonder at what point, if any, will GM recognize a quality issue here and institute a recall? I mean, what if 52% of HHRs had another issue like a bad ignition switch, or a defective suspension component? Instead, the will muddle along and make the owner deal with it, perhaps 2,3,or 4 times before they get it right. Knock on wood, my last trip to the dealer seems to have finally fixed mine. I have about 2k miles on new rotors, pads and dust shields and so far, no vibration.

Never took mine to dealer, turning only leads to more warpage.Put on EBC rotors and greenstuff pads.Heading to the mountians 1st of June, looking forward to less fade like the stock brakes did last year.
