HELP! HHR started to whine on the highway.

SIZE="3"]The whine sounds bad, loud. Just noticed it with some clear roads around here today. Sort of sounds like tires on a 4-wheel drive truck. Tires look good with even wear 27,000 miles on the stock Firestones. Does it if I put the trasnmission in N and coast. Does it at any speed. Anyone have this problem, is there a transmission issue I should know about? Won't be able to get to dealer for a while and there idots. HELP!

Hub bearing maybe. Try moving the steering wheel left to right while driving and see if the noise changes. Don't do this around the police, they may think you are drunk.

I did drive by a metal building that is close to the street in town where I have diagnosed a wheel bearing problem before and there was no change.

Then it needs to go on a lift so it can be determined where the noise is coming from.

mine does this on and off on dry and wet pavement, usually when it's colder out. I've just gotten used to it.

Maybe just the cold? Getting a state inspection Thursday going to have them look it over. They were thinking wheel bearings also but I checked that out tonight and I don't think they are the problem.
