HHR front end noise.

Our 08 HHR 2lt has 53,000 miles on it. A while back it started making a howling noise at 45 mph and above. It's steadily gotten where now it does it any time the car is in motion.

I got under it earlier and found this on the passengers side.

Its got play inside the transmission it looks like. The drivers side does it a little bit also but not near as bad.

Is this something thing that's easily fixable? It started doing this right as my wife lost her job so money is really very tight. and of course its like 5000 miles out of warranty.

Wow a 98 HHR, a one of a kind. And I thought the first yr was 2006. The howling noise sound like one of the front hub assemblies. You should be covered by the 100,000 mile power train warranty.

Also, if one dealer says it isn't covered, go to another dealer. I've had parts before that they said it isn't covered, but I have a bumper to bumper warranty still. They told me a rattle in the headliner wasn't covered by that(It was fixed later that afternoon under warranty by another dealer) and they told a man there waiting his warped rotors on his '08 Silverado weren't covered even though it only had 15k miles on it.... Yeah, I'm not going to that dealer again.

At first it was any speed over 45 now its Any time the car is moving. Gets worse with more weight.
