HHR front end noise.
Our 08 HHR 2lt has 53,000 miles on it. A while back it started making a howling noise at 45 mph and above. It's steadily gotten where now it does it any time the car is in motion.
I got under it earlier and found this on the passengers side.

Its got play inside the transmission it looks like. The drivers side does it a little bit also but not near as bad.
Is this something thing that's easily fixable? It started doing this right as my wife lost her job so money is really very tight.
and of course its like 5000 miles out of warranty.

Wow a 98 HHR, a one of a kind. And I thought the first yr was 2006. The howling noise sound like one of the front hub assemblies. You should be covered by the 100,000 mile power train warranty.
wow you caught me doing something i always mad fun of my dad for doing...always being 10 years off on the years..
I didnt know it had a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty?
is the axle slop normal?

Also, if one dealer says it isn't covered, go to another dealer. I've had parts before that they said it isn't covered, but I have a bumper to bumper warranty still. They told me a rattle in the headliner wasn't covered by that(It was fixed later that afternoon under warranty by another dealer) and they told a man there waiting his warped rotors on his '08 Silverado weren't covered even though it only had 15k miles on it.... Yeah, I'm not going to that dealer again.
i had a clunking sound.... they replaced the struts both sides. which at first no clunkie at all after driving on a short trip 500 miles, and now i have a slight clunk..not as loud.. but it sure does ride better.....clunky but smooth ride.......
