HHR Hood Release Cable

Does anybody know where to get a hood release cable? Seems no one sells them anymore. Is it a junkyard item now? Will a Cobalt or another vehicles cable fit? TIA.

The hood release cable is a used part now, be aware that the hood latch can have a switch on it for the remote start feature

This one in EBay doesn’t have the switch

This one the latch has the switch, so the cable is the same

Thanks for the update Old Blue. I guess it's used or nothing. I was hoping someone would've found an alternative cable from another vehicle. No such luck I guess.

Nope Cobalt and other GM products have similar obsolete listings .
you could fabricate a cable from your local bicycle shop.

A solution has arrived.

Guys and Gals, I have gone out on a limb and found that the Cobalt/ G5 Cable will work for the HHR. This information did not seem to be mentioned on here, so I hope to help others GM#22703199 or GM#15220451 should work. I purchased a replacement on Amazon and installed it with success and no modification. The new handle clips in the same spot the grommit fits in the firewall. and the end fits in the hood release. The only issue is that it was longer (only alittle) and routing fixed that. I hope this helps you all as I spent way too long trying to find parts and was looking into bicycle cable and the universal one I am sure you are all aware of. I used this one.

A-Premium Front Hood Latch Release Cable with Handle Compatible with Chevrolet Cobalt 2005-2010 & Pontiac G5 2007-2009, 72.8 Inch, Replace# 22703199, 15220451

I do not work for amazon or A-Premium or in the car industry so no warranty but it worked great for me.

Thanks for testing and confirming the fit to the HHR.

slight imbalance in my head...
This thing is indestructible, what happened to your cable?
and if it is broken (the cable itself) what prevents you from finding a similar section in the garage or in a hardware store? a free and effortless option.
Jesus, when I was a kid, my motorcycle brakes were operated by a simple guitar string, casually shoved into the channel instead of a broken cable.
I apologize in advance for a possibly stupid question, in case I misunderstood something

Arizona happened my friend. the plastic handle sun/heat rotted and broke in a handful of pieces because the casing on the cable hardened and cracked so it crushed up and kinked and bound hard. I am sorry if I misled but if I only broke the cable the bicycle industry has a fix. Plus this was 18 bucks and easy peasy to install. Just pull it in from the drivers side to the release latch or else the fire wall boot is almost impossible to seat.

now I get it
there really is a problem and you solved it brilliantly...
Damn, I didn't know it was so hot in Arizona, they don't show that in westerns.
