HHR Morning Surges

I have a 2010 HHR 2.4 LT. Around 180k miles. Every morning when pulling out of drive, while holding gas pedal at an even spot, the motor starts to rev or surge up and down. If I let off the gas and depress again it will usually stop surging. When it is doing this, you can see the tach gauge go up and down.
if I stop at the stop sign, it will also stop.
it only does this in the morning and runs fine the rest of the day. Any idea what it would be is greatly appreciated
Also, no engine light or codes showing.

You may want to check the level of the transmission fluid.

Monitor the digital temp. It may have something to do with the coolant temp. It should get up to 180F in 2-3 minutes and stay around 190F. Occasionally up to 219F is OK, but should drop back to 180F-190F pretty quickly.
More important is getting up to 180F quickly.

You understand that it's not just a dipstick....

It involves lifting the car, level, and removing a plug, to check the fluid level while the vehicle is running.
