Large red wires to the upper large post. Small purple wire to the upper small post(solenoid). There should not be a extra wire. Must be for something else, or someone did some shadetree wiring.

Ok, you must have had 1 large wire on each post, that's what threw me.
Both large red wires go on upper post. That's battery positive to the alternator. Small purple wire goes to the solenoid.
