How to Unlock 2007 HHR Hatch Back Door

I have found out that if your Battery is completely dead there is an autolock mechanism that prevents you to open the back door. Also be advised on 2007 HHR LT Modesl go to front driver door hit unlock button and lala your back door will open.LT models there is no inside latch release to open door.
There is a solution to this Main Problem.
You must first start charging the battery wait ten minutes after time has expired walk to front driver door open it and hit the unlock button problem solved back door opens now.

Welcome to the site.

Actually this has been discussed a number of times in the past - use the SEARCH tool at the top of the page if you want more info on it.

There is a way to manually unlock it from the inside through a little removable cover, and using a screwdriver to trip the mechanical latch. Your owners manual covers it I believe, as does some links here and youtube videos.

Link to Owners Manual in my sig.
The easy way is to connect jumper cables under the hood, but that also REQUIRES reading the Owners Manual.

I suspect that you now have no power steering.

Welcome to the site! I have an '07 LS and have had to open the back hatch with the hatch release inside that little pop off door, it is on all HHR's LS/LT and SS models

You give a lot of misinformation while trying to 'educate' us on something that has already been discussed here many times in the past.

The is no "autolock mechanism that prevents you to open the back door". What happens is that when the battery is dead there is not enough current to actuate the lock. LT models do have a manual inside latch to release the door, as do all HHRs. You're not 'charging' the battery if you are using the points under the hood; you just 'jumping' it. If you could get to the battery to charge it you likely already have the hatch open.

I think that part of what you think is going on is that the gate locks and unlocks the same way the 3 passenger doors do when using the fob. You must push unlock twice. Or use the "unlock all" button on one of the front doors.
