Problems/Service/RepairsIf you have a problem with your HHR, want a tip on repairing or performing a particular service to you HHR here is the place to post!
I just brought a Chevy 2010 HHR extended SPU.. the battery died and I can’t get into the car to jump it. Is there a way to get into the front hood ? The door key hole was messed up when I brought it, so turning the key unlocks the door, but the handle is broken inside, and it won’t open.
I you can get to the starter you can get power enough to turn things on. Apply the positive lead of a battery charger to the big cable on the starter and you can attach the ground to the ear on the starter or any good ground. This will allow the fob system to power up and unlock doors and stuff.
What is an "extended SPU"? What does the inside handle have to do with opening the door from the outside? You might try the rear lift gate, sometimes somebody put a fuse in the #10 slot and disabled the lock. Otherwise, a locksmith or car thief is the answer.
If you had demanded a fob when you bought it there would be no problem. The fob is a part of the car, like the wheels and Owner Manual; don't buy a car with a missing parts.
Donbrew, the battery is so dead that the hatch won't operate, nor would a fob. Might be too dead to Jumpstart.
Greg's idea is good in theory, but does carry some risk. The positive clamp of the battery charger must not touch any other metal part, or sparks will ensue. If the car was on a lift, might be able to successfully do this.
You're probably going to have to call a locksmith or tow operator.
this method opening the door with a rope really works
I did this twice or thrice
in my opinion, it is more convenient to open the back door than the front door - the window there is shorter, although the dark glass somewhat clouds the view

The first video works for me (in Russia) without problems, but when transferred to our site it doesn’t work...
I don’t know the reason, but I’m posting a couple of screenshots from the video
