Inside door handle busted-again
597
I’ve had both the Drivers door panel and the driver’s rear Passenger door panel off. I did not notice specifically if the handles were the same, but like you I suspect they are indeed the same, i.e. the right side vehicle door handles are of one type and the left hand vehicle door handles are of another type.
Unlike the Dorman replacement “assembly” featured above in some posts, I removed the chrome handles from the front right and left assembly and painted them.

Thanks for the reply.
When you buy a hhr interior door handle it does not ask you for front or rear so in my opinion I would say that you can remove a working door handle from a rear door on drivers side and install on the front drivers side door without any problem.
I believe it must be from same side.

Can you pull a chevy hhr 2006 interior door handle from a rear door and move it to the drivers side door instead of buying another one?
This would save buying another one and if the rear doors are rarely used they wont be missed?
Have done extensive searching across different forums and have not seen this question and possible solution asked.
I appreciate the time and work all the posters on here put into making this valuable information public.
I contribute and post answers on different forums of a different type where I take before and after photos of the problem and post my tested solution with my methodology and details.
In other words, I know and appreciate the time solution providers put into forums.

(note to moderator/admin - I posted this in how to guides and then found this thread for problem service. this is a possible workaround that I have not seen discussed and if it works can save many people (including me) a lot of money and hassle. Please remove one of my posts if this is outside the rules of the forums.)

Door handles
My 2006 HHR just turned 100,000 and thats when the drivers handle broke. My local dealer quoted $375 for the complete panel! After reading the posts I thought the Dorman product was also too expensive. So I removed both front and rear door panels and swaped just the handles..Back to front.. I simply pulled the (plastic) hinge pin and reset the good one and the spring replacing the pin. It seemed much simpler than drilling out the plastic weld spots to mount an assembly. I took the broken handle, drilled a hole, countersunk and tapped for a 6-32 flat head screw to draw both pieces together and strengthen bonding with Epoxy also filled the cavities. The overall structure is quite flimzy! Examining the piece closely one can see stress cracks radiating througout. Mounted this handle in the rear panel.
Deducting the time spent mending the part the total repair and replace for both doors was less than an hour. Even thought about turning brass hinge pins, but that would outlive 100 new handles!

Not to Be an Ass ... but seriously , Ive driven these cars for years , both my personal and the one I drove for work ... spanning modles 2008 -2011 and even considering the brutal conditions and behaviors we often exude with work vehicles and just the enviornment Ive never had an issue or heard of this as an issue ... maybe a little less personal time with that left hand ???? :)
As for the expense ...I had this argument with my wife for years about coffee makers of all things ...she buys the 10 dollar black and decker coffee pots and burns through them twice a year , after awhile the money she expends far exceeds the ammount we'd spend just getting one decent quality mid grade , heavy duty coffee maker ... so if your having this kind of issue you might want to consider the upgrade anyways as in the long run itll most likly save you time and money.

I really like to wander thur savage yards lookng for things to repurpose. In early summer it was mag wheels for my newly owned a 2011.
I'm now fighting with a backup camera that does not want to work. It's not wireless nor would I say it was easy to install. Because it's still not working. However here is my question. I'm mounting the camera on the top part of the state plate to the back side of the tailgate, or somewhere like this....
When I remove the 2 screws holding most of this handle to the tailgate will there be parts inside that wil have to be repaired. Any ideas or suggestions on a different back-up camera and how to install it, would be welcomed

I have seen cameras the mount inside the rear window. Depending on your camera there is a knock out next to the plate light for just that purpose.
Personally, I don't know why people resist putting out few bucks for a wireless transmitter and receiver. Makes it a lot easier than routing wires.
