Interior Leak!!

Went to get in our HHR this morning and noticed the carpet on teh passenger floor close to the front edge of the door is SOAKED! It is NOT coolant, rather water. It rained hard last night. We do have a factory sun roof in our and as I started looking around I noticed stains on the headliner near the sunroof opening that look to be from water. Yes the roof was closed as were the doors and windows. Anyone had a similar experience or know of a common problem? The dealer wants to replace the windshield molding (read: remove and replace the windshield) before even having looked at it!

It could be that the heavy rain over-powered the drains in the sunroof or the drains could be clogged. If it is wet around the sunroof I would be looking for the problem there and not in the windshield, unless the headliner is wet there also.

The headliner is dry now, seems to be an old leak up there. The current leak is on the passenger floorboard up near where the front edge of the door closes. We are not talking a drop or two, more like either they fix this or hook us up with a gold fish and a tiny castle! The dealer said they were going to pick up the car today and never showed. When I called they told me they could not work on repairing a leak when it was raining! Seems liek a pretty good time to isolate a water leak to me...

edit to add: thanks for the link old ray!

This is what I found to be the problem with my sunroof drains.
The water was running down the side post onto the passenger side floor.

Last year, I noticed water above the headliner under the front of my sunroof. But, it may have been slightly open because after that I never saw it again. BUT.....

I have noticed that when it rains heavy, the rear seatbelt/shoulder harness straps are wet. And I found a pool of water once under the passanger rear seat. The puddle could have been my 5 year old spilling a bottle of water-but the belt straps has been an ongoing problem for a while. I believe it to be from the luggage rack. I once tried to remove it, and one of the bolts was not locked into place and just spun. I reattached the rack, but the loose bolt may be the culpret. I plan on having it removed at a body shop and the holes covered up, then I will see if I still have the problem.

My point is, do you have the luggage racks on your roof? (Or a sloppy 5 year old?)

Mine is in the shop right now with a rain water leak. My front passenger floor was like a swimming pool after this past weekend's rains. Took the dealership two days to find where the water was coming in from. Definately not the sunroof because I don't have one.

Now I have to wait for parts to come in (hopefully tomorrow). They had to tear out all the interior to find the leak, and unsoak the rugs/replace the foam underneath/etc.

I had the same problem, wet carpet on the passanger side i took mine to the dealership and they replaced the heater/air distribution case passanger compartment ( air conditioning module ) they said it was improperly sealed so they r&r it and resealed at the bulkhead area along r/s. this was back in Sept /07 hasn't leaked since.
