Intermittent Wipers Not Working Properly- ? for ChevyMgr or anyone else

Having a problem with my wipers. Occasionally the wipers will move about an inch from their starting position and stop. They will not sweep the windshield and clear it. On the next cycle they will work properly. This can happen on any intermittent speed but does not occur when the wipers are on low or high. This occurs regardless of vehicle speed.

I have had my HHR into the dealership after I recorded a video of the problem on my digital camera to show the service manager. They said the BCM was not commanding the wiper relay to turn on. Dealer replaced the BCM two weeks ago. On the way home today it was raining and my wipers started acting up again.

Are there any TSB's or other information from GM regarding this issue? I have not had very good look with my dealership service department resolving issues but I am stuck with them. The next closest dealership is 30 miles away.

I haven't seen this one before. My first thought was the wiper motor or the relay. The BCM replacement was kind of a fishing expedition. If you were coming back to me I would replace both. I will check tomorrow on bulletins on this subject but I don't ever remember seeing one.

There are no Technical Service Bulletins on any wiper system for the HHR.

My guess would be the motor park switch/sensor is acting up. Replace the motor.

Thank you so much for checking. I am making an appointment with my dealer to see if they can get this squared away.

Sometimes mine does it too, but it didn't start until about a year ago. One of these days I'll get it in to check it out, hopefully before the GMPP is out.

My rear wiper would go about 1/4 to half way and stop till the next cycle, especially in cold weather. A new wiper motor fixed that problem.

Update: Dealership replaced my wiper switch today. $40 part, $70 labor, paid the GMPP deductible and saved ten bucks. Also had the side-impact/rollover recall service performed. First time car has been to dealer service in over three years and 67,700 miles.
