Key Fob Issue

My wife has a 06 LS. The key fob works fine expect for the locking button. You have to hold down the locking button for at least five seconds. I checked the search for this related issue and found nothing. I cleaned the connections and buttons with alcohol and tried using a eraser. Nothing has improved. Wondering if I should disconnect the battery? Also thinking the fob may be worn out. Any suggestions?

Yup, sounds like it is worn out. Not sure what ones you already looked at, but there are numerous threads regarding repairing the worn out "carbon" buttons (with tin foil, or , or buttons scabbed from an old tv remote or calculator). Several also discuss purchasing fob rebuild kits (to replace the case and keypad) at most auto repair shops.

I doubt disconnecting the car's battery will do anything positive in your case - it's the fob that is the problem.

There is keyless fix which repair the contacts. Or you can get replacement rubber pads on ebay.

Both of these fixes do not require dealer programing because you reuse the board from your old fob.

Something must be wrong with the search if you couldn't find anything. I have noticed some odd behavior lately.

hint: try "keyfob".

Thanks Whopper, I tried the tin foil last night and they both work like brand new! She's so happy and says thanks as well. Happy wife, happy life.
