Key fob not working at times.

Recently bought a 2009 HHR. The fob is a sometimes fob. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Only one of the three buttons works.... the horn one. On back, says GM/L: 15777636.....

Two questions.

One: Since money is tight for me, what is the most economic way to get a working fob -- repair or replace.

Two: GM or third party?

Use the search phrase "keyfob" in the search box for more information than you thought you needed.

Welcome to the site. I moved this into its own thread.

You can get replacement key fob pads on ebay for a few bucks. some of a our members have glued a small amount of tin foil to the back of the key pad to repair the contact.

Search key fob repair and you will find lots of info.

Lawdog,

Do they program the fob with that price? I have to get one of mine programed this week. Contacts look great and I installed a new battery to no avail.

Boydie did you check the battery holder contacts? Most times it's the battery cage that requires a touch of soldering!

Yes, there is a new Dorman, or whatever your choice of store calls the brand, keyfob that includes a program module. I have not tried it, but it claims to work.

That's at NAPA, but all of the stores have a similar supplier. Advance uses Dorman IIRC. They all come from Dorman but each store calls it something different.

Don't forget Don...the sensor (if it has remote start) on the front driver side "may" need replacing. Just saying because mine need replacing(08 HHR SS), fobs were OK, sensor was cooked.

FWIW, I saw AZ has Dorman as the NB for theirs too.
