We had the key sticking problem with our '06 about a year ago and the dealer replaced the shifter assembly. Since then no problem with the key sticking. Now a different problem has cropped up with it!
Several times over the past few weeks the car won't start unless you take it out of Park and move the shifter back and forth a time or two. I took it to the dealer after the first time and the service rep said it was because the button on the front of shifter grip doesn't pop out all the way sometimes. He said they'd replace the shifter again if it continues to be a problem. It's more of a "nuisance" than a problem actually, but I think I'll take them up on the changeout. Who knows, It might get worse if I don't!!

There is a TSB about this I think, the shift cable is loose and wont fully engage in park.

I had been having the same problem with my key sticking in the ignition. I took it to Hubler Chev in Indy. My car has been out of warranty for 1.5 months due to years and has 36,349 mi. They noted that the brake-transmission interlock switch failed-replaced the shifter assembly. Gm went ahead and repaired under the warranty anyway. I have to say I was suprised they would fix under warranty. This dealership has been very good to work with. They have taken care of every problem I have had with no grief what so ever. Very nice

Me too! 2007 2LT w/ 29,000 - Key Stuck!

Started doing it tonight. Thank goodness someone had the foresight to put the "backdoor" emergency remedy in place!

I'm looking for the TSB too.

My 2006 is out of warranty too. Do you think the dealership will cover it? Same problem - key stuck - have to give the steering column the finger.

I just called the dealership - he said that they would cover it, even though it's out of warranty. I bring the old HHR in on Monday - I'll let you know how it goes!

I just got back from the dealership today. I brought the old HHR in at 8 AM and was out the door with a new shifter assembly at 9:15. No Charge! My 2006 is 1 and a half years out of warranty, but they still covered it! My HHR only has 32 thousand miles on it, so that might have something to do with it. Again, thanks to all on the forum that share all the helpful information.

Stuck Key

My key gets stuck and won't turn when I want to START the car. Have a stick shift. Put the clutch down...shifted to neutral...then thru all of the gears...kept on trying and finally the key tureds. Don't know what made it turn or why it gets "locked" like that. Any input would help!

Also, the gas mileage on the DIC doesn't seem to be very accurate. Get in the car, and it says I can go 94 miles on gas in car...drive for a few miles and it'll say there's 150 miles left. ??????

This is my first post...hope it's posted in the right place!

Thanks!
