leak in passenger foot well
leak in passenger foot well
Guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. We have had lots of rain lately, for almost a week. They said we got bout 12" in the past 24 hrs. And it will probalby continue for most of this week also. Wife said yeaterday leaving church she felt a water drop hit her foot.
I asked it it was hot, she said no so I knew it was the infamous cowl leak. I took it home and we got in hers to finish what we needed to do and also to stop and pickup some RTV and a new cabin filter. Took it all apart and found the culprit. One spot had peeled up and there was standing water on top of it. So I pulled it up and plut down a bead of RTV fully around it and pressed it back down. Let it sit for for about 45 mintues to make sure it was going to stay down before I buttoned it all back up. I just checked it again and so far so good.... Almost took the day off so it would get the full 24 hrs to cure, but I'm hoping 18 hrs will suffice.
Everyone had stated how crappy this design is and I'll agree. It will happen sooner or later. I suggest to everyone to take the cowl off and at least apply a bead around it as it sits, not removing it for now. It's only 4 long bolts, removal of the wiper arms, and just pull forward. It's easy and will prevent your floor board from getting soaked. I caught mine early so I didn't have any flooded floor boards or carpet. But If the wife had not of felt that, today no telling how it would be. I know there are pics here somplace of the proceedure, but once you get the cowl pulled back, you can't miss this piece of plastic. I'm already thinking of what to do next time it happens. Cause I know it probably will.

Solman, I just did mine a couple weeks ago and found 3 small tears about 1/2inch long along the edge of the rubber piece nearest the windshield. I used the rubber as a template and cut out a piece of aluminum flashing that I put down with a double bead of RTV and a couple self tapping screws. That one will never tear or leak again.
I used the flashing that comes in 10 or 25 foot rolls and is almost thin enough to cut with household scissors. Really simple and easy to do for a permanent fix.

With all the rain we received last week here I just discovered I have that effin leak now. Very rarely does anyone ride in my passenger seat so I did'nt know until I pulled my car out of the garage this morning and it smelled like someone died in it. I'll be applying the fix next week. Guess its time to trade up to a new Camaro!
