Lens restore for headlamps

Looking for a quick solution to restore my front lens plastics? An old timer mentioned a quick rub with acetone will sometimes do it? Any suggestions for a quick & easy fix?

I used the Mcquire's kit and it worked great.

I would not use acetone... If you ever saw the results, you would know why.

Acetone worked fine on glass bulbs. Maybe OK on the type of plastic used these days, I would not be the guinea pig.

I think Ill try buffing / heat first.. Ill do a web search
For me, buying the McGuires kit is like admitting defeat or taking it to the dealer..
Im a think outside the box kinda guy - solutions and quick fixes that work good enough.. 👍

Your only quick fix is to buy new ones, cause nothing you do will last.

Do you also refine your own oil instead of buying it off the shelf.....

Acetone on plastic. What could go wrong.

I tried everything on my wife's Hyundai to shine up them up. Minor success that didn't last.
The "fix" was new headlight assemblies.

In my search, I found many have had success with acetone.. Others have used lacquer thinner and some have even used toothpaste! COOOOOL! So many creative options other than dealership and buying brand new.. I'll report back with pictures for members or owners that may want to try something other than dealership or buying new..

There are 2 distinct points of failure; pitting and yellowing.

Pitting can only be addressed with rubbing rouge, yellowing is a different thing, solvent may work.

In either case you are removing the protective layer, so you need to replace it with something. Like Rain-x frequently.

All plastics have an outer film covering.
