List Of Common Recurring HHR Problems
I have a loud "road noise" on my 06 2LT
I cannot isolate it.
122k
tires have even wear, no OOR issues, drives smooth and straight.
Tires have 18k on them(all 4)
hard to describe, so here goes:
it sounds like when a large 4x4 with knobby tires is next to you.
at freeway speeds around 70 mph it is more pronounced and increases the more distance I drive.
when slowing down to a stop at a signal light(45-0 mph) it sounds like the truck tires as a truck slows.
when at freeway/or any speed over 40 mph if I shift to neutral, noise remains constant and only changes in pitch as car decelerates.
if I shift to neutral and rev engine while at speed, noise remains unchanged.
I suspected a tire issue...as if a tire is under-inflated.
such is not the case
the noise appeared suddenly, not progressively over time.
noise does not change in pitch or volume if wheel is turned/when cornering.
any suggestions?
I cannot isolate it.

I have replaced quite a few of these on the GM's
Could be something else but sound like a Wheel bearing.
^ Have you checked the tires for cupping/scalloping? If there is none, you should check your wheel bearings, since inflation is OK. If your tires are fine, it sounds like a bearing to me.
Is Windsor, CA in California or Ontario? I work with a guy from Windsor, ON here...

Guess I typed too slowly....)

I suffered from excessively loud road noises exactly as you describe.
The fix in my case was to replace drivers side front wheel hub assembly.
So..., FIRST you need to isolate which wheel is making the noise.
TIP: Might as well have the brake pads replaced when having this replaced also
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

197k 06 LS
Lets see:
- Passenger side hub bearing replaced at 60,000 kms.
- Replaced two fuel injector at 64,000 kms.
- Sway bar links and sway bar bushing gone at 70,000 kms.
- Battery & Struts changed at 75,000 kms.

My 09 with 21k has things popping up on dic. Currently its "service air bag." In the past it was "check engine." I tried to have onstar run a diag, but that didn't work. The flags have always been intermittent.
Have had my '10 LS since September. Just turned 42,000 yesterday. So far, drivers side wheel hub assembly (bearings) and last week did the drivers side headlamp bulb. Soon to get new tires. No more Firestones.
