Loose cigarette lighter socket

So I'm just really noticing, but my cigarette lighter socket is wiggly. Mostly on like.. The right side. Every time I pull something out of it I'm worried it's gonna pull the whole thing out. Is there a way to tighten this?

It's mostly the retainer ring that breaks

it is a friction fit from the factory. If somebody tried to mess with it without the "special tool" they usually break either the hole or the holder in thingy.

There are 2 tabs on the retainer that go into holes in the outlet. The tool goes around the receptacle and pushes the tabs out.

Are you aware there is a difference between cigar lighter and power outlet? Don't put a cig lighter in a power outlet! Unless your car came with the "Smoker's" package you have a power outlet from the factory.

I doubt super glue would do it.

X2 , if I thought glue would be a viable solution, I would have advised you so.
It's your car , but you should repair it properly

I know this is an ancient thread, but my power outlet is also loose. I was about to buy the retainer clip, but then I read about the "special tool". What is that and where can I get one?
Thanks!

Yes, that will do it, I didn’t know Dorman was reproducing the tool.

What it does is releases the spring clips on the plastic retainer so they don't break. Installation is simply a "click".
