Many problems, timing chain

Many have surpassed the 200K mark, some 300K, and a few 400K. Alot of them with the factory chain still spinning strongly. I have 204K currently with original chain. You may have had the all too common knock at startup indicating a worn timing chain tensioner. I would have a conversation with who replaced the chain and find out why it "needed to be done."
My car is the 2011 2.2 and I bought it last week. It currently has 175 and besides the 2 codes I have I think all else is well. I show P00016 and p00017 I just found this out and have been looking all over since. This is the first fourme I have seen with this car so I must write. I know I should start with the magnets right? I haven't had the car long enough to notice if has lost power but I firat thought so. But also the oil was almost gone when I bought it like it wasn't changed for awhie. And I learned that could cause it too. Also someone mentioned it sounds like a not so loud diesel motor when I start from a stop. The only other thing is just when the car is idling every so often is sounds like the motor is bogging up and down slightly but the RPMS don't fall to blow 700 and dont go above 1100. And lol one more when I'm driveing the car is fine but when I get to 61 mph through 64 mph the car begins to shake I believe it is the motor and I was told when I do the oil it should fix itself but I think it's the control arm with ball joint. So idk I'm just mainly concerned with the two 00016 and 17 codes. 2011 HHR 2.2 .thanks

P0016 code , the timing chain has to be replaced, because the old one has stretched

https://www.obd-codes.com/p0016

The timing chain is also causing the P0017

https://www.obd-codes.com/p0017

Don't go cheap, replace the timing and balance shaft chains

As for the LCA's just get the correct cast aluminum Moog arms that'll address the ball joints also.

I moved these posts to a new thread since it really has nothing to do with the long thread it was posted in.

I assume you bought the car as a project?

What magnets? The only magnets I know of are inside the trans oil pan.
Yes new timing chain.
Check the flex pipe for cracks.
Check your tire balance.
Find out where the oil went.

So how would I name the new forum so it's possible for people to find ? Or wll it be ok? But yeah this form at the top started with the same car I have and it was about the exact problem my car is having. With the p.16 and p17 so I thought this would be a perfect spot but that's fine.
Now I bought it thinking it was ok i mean it wasn't an arm and a leg but I bought it with the intention to use for work. Because it was owned by a business before I had it and the business had for each car a service membership that the drives had to log everything and had specific locations to bring the cars and have them serviced but I'm not sure why this happened. I don't want to day the oil is gone but the dip stick for the oil from full to empty is only showing the loss of a qrt or 2 so iment by it was just past a needed time for a change so it could hopefully be just the oil.
Now when u day timing chain is that like a serious problem to fix because I have been reading a lot about this damn timing assembly and cs and cs an all those great stuff but it was all on other cars. Some had the belt. So I know that this has a chain but is this a expensive repair and by don't go cheap do you mean j by get a good brand chain
And by the magnets I was meaning the cam magnets for either side of the motor. I believe there are 2 but could be one for this 4cl.

I would really appreciate the help because I can tell the car is affected by this right now and I would really like to stay in this HHR family because until I had one I would of never liked but now I'm a fan for life!!!

Hello sorry if I do this wrong by just jumping in, but I just started here today. First four so I'm here for a couple questions I have about my HHR I just bought this week. And one of my problems relate to this thread.
When I drive the car is some what fine but the moment my car hits 61 mph it starts to shake and it does this at 61,62,63, and 64 mph it stops. I can go to70mph but it into neutral and cost and it will still do it at exactly 64mph and stop at 60. I was told by the guy at AutoZone it could be relating to my error code p0016- 17 which is the misfire CMS and cks are out of sync in both banks. BUT I know thing it's front end parts.
When I am normally driving I can ride over a rough patch in the road ( some little holes and opening) and it feels like it shakes and wiggles the car. I had a friend who I guess is a mechanic he just does oil changes but he works at a tire garage but he checked around there and used a pipe under the passenger tire while it was lifted a few in ofd the ground and pulled the pipe up and noticed the ball joint needs replaced. Saying I need to find a new control arm with ball joint for the F. R. Could this be my problem? I just find it weird how it's fine until those 3 exact speeds!!
Please help if you have any input it would be appreciated!!
And please tell me if this isn't how you jump into someone elses Convo lol

I think by "magnet" you must mean the position sensors, they rarely go bad, but are frequently replaced on a "kill the messenger" mentality. The codes mean that the sensors don't agree with each other, it could be that the passive sensors are worn out but far more likely the chain that they are monitoring is bad.

By don't go cheap on the chain we mean replace all the parts including the guides. There are 2 chains, the water pump is driven by one, so it is easiest to change it at the same time the chains are replaced.

The oil is fine anywhere between the lines.

Since the post addressed several items and was your first post I felt it was more appropriate to be in the "Introductions" area.

Most people find posts using the "search" tool. There are 12 years of posts on the forum. If you need an Owner Manual follow the link in my sig.

Usually a vibration at a set speed has to do with wheel balance.

You would be well served by getting a good mechanic to inspect the suspension. The Lower Control arms are usually replaced as an assembly, Bushings, Ball joints etc. If you go that way be sure to get the cast aluminum parts.

Could also have to do with the hub/bearings.

There is a link in my sig re: suspension noises and how to diagnose them.

Don't rename it. What questions are not answered?

Believe me. I'd like to rename it. To address people's opinions and advice on how I should test things to find the exact problem by process of elimination. I know the car has had to have its chains replaced once or twice before so before I jump into the deepest end of the pool by replacing all the chains and their parts. I would like to find other people with the similar examples and there approach to fixing it. Also any idea on how to run a P.O.E
So me renameig it will better my chances so I can direct this thread to an exact area of discussion
