Angry Mass Air Flow Sensor problems.....

I have an 08 2LT with the 2.4/auto and ive gone through 2 Mass Air Flow sensors. The third time it acted up i took it apart and saw it was dirty and was able to clean it(i know your not supposed to do that but it worked for a good 6months now). Ive been having this problem for the past year(3 times) and now its acting up again. The motor surges and stalls, mostly when at a light but when it gets bad it does it even going 70. Eventualy it throws the MAF CEL and one for random misfire aswell. It doesnt matter if the motor is hot or cold. The only thing i could think of is i put a K&N filter in it about 1 1/2 years ago(ive cleaned it twice since i put it in and re-oiled it) and i wanted to know if anyone else is going through the same thing????

Don't oil the filter.

Did you use MAF cleaner (available at your local auto parts store)? It IS the oil from the filter. Yes, almost everyone that installed an oil-able filter has the problem, it seems mostly from over oiling.

I'm glad I visited this site before installing a K&N. I was very careful about the amount of oil on the filter and made sure to let it sit for a while before installing.

Be sure to use the MAF cleaner, it is made for the job. Even touching the thing could muck it up, like any fine electrical filament.

Yes. But the auto parts store you went to should have been able to answer that.

Fwiw. It may not be a MAF problem. If they read the codes and the code # instructed you had a bad MAF, that may be wrong.
Some codes #s can give a "false" positive about which part is defective.

You can get rebuilt and new MAFs. EBay from China is a lot cheaper.
