more CEL! p0172

As stated, I'm showing p0172, which is apparently a rich fuel code. Any suggestions? MAF? o2? For what it's worth, car is running very well and getting excellent MPG's. 147k

Thanks

Been experiencing this for a while?

I did have this happen to me once, if I am remembering right, it was just after the fuel truck had left, and I had also added an octane booster to see what that would do. After I burned through that tank of fuel, I cleared the CEL, and it never came back. But I tried to clear a couple times during, and it would come back.

Yea try like a three part fuel cleaner. One that goes into your booster line. Possibly a dirty o2 sensor.

no, this is a new code. Been chasing a couple others that are apparently gone. Right before my next oil change, I think I'm going to dump a can of SeaFoam via the booster vaccuum line or straight into the oil. Says you can do either way or in the fuel tank.

I would start by checking the fuel psi. High fuel psi could be a stuck regular if psi drops with the engine off could be a leaking lnjector. If fuel system checks out ok then it will probably be a sensor problem. To get into that you would need a scan tool.

so...we cleared the light Sunday night. Came back on Monday evening. After 3 heat cycles, it's out again. Still running good and great MPG's. I'm baffled, but at least it's out :)

You may have simply put in some "bad gas" as MeijerLPO suggested. Never had it happen on our HHR but I had that code come up on the Acura once, come back once after being cleared and then go out after driving it a couple of days. That's been almost 6 months. Hasn't been back on since.

Some people have a problem with directions. If your going to put seafoam in the oil, you have to do an oil change soon. You can't just leave it in there....

I've never used it in the oil, but have used it as a top engine cleaner via the brake booster (not on the HHR though). And several times in the tank (about once a year).

I've heard it makes the car smoke something awful for a little bit...how long? I'd only do it a day.or so prior to oil change, as I suggested earlier.
