My Gauge Cluster Went Banannas

So I was driving today between work shifts. Stopped at a place, was fine. Went to next place and it had been fine but the battery light kicked on in the dash. I noticed the one door hadn't closed all the way (caught on carseat in the back) Car started up no problem after I shut it off again but when I went to merge onto the highway noticed my guage said I was going 120+. I was following a dump truck. I got off at the ramp and noticed stopped it said around 40mph and my gas was peaked and my tack was off as well.

Here was it once I got to daycare to pick up the girls. The car is turned off. After turning it to the off and on position about 5 times it was finally back to 0 for everything.

Any ideas?

My gauge cluster went crazy because of a short. The dealer replaced it, and it works just fine now. No problems, one month out.

I called and my poor baby has an appintment on tuesday. He said the same thing, probably the whole cluster will be swapped.

I just hate the stupid Saturn Astra's they give me as rentals.

Had that happen to my 07 a couple of times. Dealer installed a new cluster to fix it, but have not had a problem since. Only took them maybe 30 minutes to change it out.

Well I didn't get a new cluster, I have the paper from them. They reflashed it because there was a TSB about it doing it. So hopefully that solves it, if not I guess next step might be a new cluster.

I want to add a warning, when I had my cluster go crazy, there were four or five times when I went to push on the brakes, and they just didn't work. So be careful if they go crazy again. I'm lucky I didn't hit anything and was on the way to the dealer when it started happening.

Yeah it happened last Thursday, and then again Sunday. My husband was driving and got a great laugh at the HHR going 60-140 in I forget the seoconds (he video taped it for fun).

That worries me a bit as I drive children around in my car for work. So I am going to hope my breaks never stop working when it does that.

Fixed some with this problem by reprogramming. Here is the TSB.

This condition shouldn't affect your brakes though. Very odd that condition occured when the guages went wacky.

Gauges just went wacky on our 08 last night. Wife said the speedo was reading 100mph. When she pulled into the driveway and was stopped it was still reading 50mph and the tach was at 3500.

Even my mother's 2004 Buick LeSabre has had this happen to it. It does eventually go away, but it's just a nuisance. Here's the clincher though. She also had a HUD for speed, so since the mechanical tach and speedo were going crazy, that one kept me out of a ticket. :)
